Mole Removal
Moles are a common type of skin growth that most people have and develop in their younger years. Often, they are benign and don’t require treatment. They may appear as small dark brown spots.
Moles can be unsightly and can occur in the most awkward places. There is absolutely no reason to suffer from such Moles, since a visit to our office will allow us to easily identify the type of mole(s) you have, and, if necessary, to remove them.
If you have Moles on your body, please monitor them for change – such as size, color, and shape. if any of these characteristics change, then you must get checked and possibly have them removed.
Depending on the mole type, Dr. Gross will use one of two methods to remove a mole(s):
- Surgical Excision: The area around the mole will be numbed, the mole will be surgically removed, and the area will be closed with stitches. The tissue sample will then be sent to the lab for processing and microscopic examination.
- Surgical Shave: This technique is similar to the method described above, except the removal is more superficial, so it does not require stitches.
So, the overview of mole removal is simple – if you have one that is not bothering you or hasn’t changed in shape, color or size….it may not require removal. Remember, if in doubt – get the mole checked….it could save your life.
